Below is the text of an e-mail sent to various stakeholder groups by Keray Henke, Deputy Minister, Alberta Education on October 30, 2007.
Effective April 1, 2008, the ministries of Education and Advanced Education and Technology will be transitioning from broadcast distribution of course-related video content to providing these resources through the Learning Resources Centre (LRC).
For 13 years, government was part of a public-private partnership with ACCESS, Alberta's educational television service. As part of this agreement, government purchased air time on ACCESS to broadcast educational programs that supported the K-12 curriculum, post secondary courses of study and lifelong learning in Alberta.
As our online capabilities have increased over the past decade, we have new opportunities to improve access to high quality educational multimedia resources in schools and at home. This is a direct result of government's investment in the development of SuperNet, Alberta's high-speed internet network.
ACCESS will continue to be Alberta's designated educational broadcaster and will continue to produce and broadcast a wide range of formal and informal educational programs for learners of all ages and needs in Alberta.
