The SSVI provides services to Alberta schools on behalf of students with visual impairments as a first priority. The SSVI is committed to the sharing of resources interprovincially as its second priority. It loans alternate format resources, when available, to members of the Canadian Association of Education Resources Centres for Alternate Format Materials (CAER).
As a third priority service and on a cost recovery basis, the SSVI loans alternate format resources when they are available to other libraries for users who are print-disabled. As well, the SSVI loans to libraries on a cost recovery basis, titles from the SSVI professional collection when they are available. All titles are subject to an interlibrary loan fee of $15.00 per month. Requests for renewal are accepted only if Alberta schools have not requested the titles. The fee for each additional 1-month loan is $15.00.
Information about the alternate format resources in the SSVI collection can be found on the National Library of Canada CANUC:H database, which is accessed through AMICUS. Interlibrary loan requests can be submitted via the AMICUS Online Interlibrary Loan Request Form. Interlibrary loan requests submitted on standard interlibrary loan forms are also accepted. These forms can be sent via Mail, Fax or E-Mail (materialsresourceunit@gov.ab.ca).
Learning kits and student equipment are not available to interlibrary loan centres.
